Feng Shui is the art of harnessing energy or "chi" to create a balance and harmony in our
environment.  This energy or "Chi" is the invisible force that circulates and moves within
the environment, indoors and outdoors, on land, in water, across mountains... in other
words it is everywhere.  Scientifically speaking, this could be one of the energies that the
electronic age is tapping on for our mobile phones, satellite transmissions, etc.

This "Chi" also vibrates through the human body and this is what Chinese Traditional
Medicine is based on - the 5 elements : Metal, Wood, Water, Fire and Earth.

When activated or in balance and harmony, this "Chi"  attracts abundant good fortune,
engenders vibrant good health and creates enormous prosperity.   Thus, Man's destiny is
vastly improved when "Chi" is captured through the practice of Feng Shui...

In the beginning, master practitioners focused more on Landscape Feng Shui where
emphasis was on the shapes of mountains and the direction of water flows. Over the
centuries, they realized that  Man's destiny could be further enhanced if there was also
correct alignment of the environment's Chi to that of the human Chi of the individual.
Thus, the Compass School Feng Shui (also known as Eight Mansions) was formulated
and developed.  In this school, a person's kua number is calculated to determine one's
good and bad directions.

The first thing to do is to check your birth date against the Chinese calendar to make sure
that you are using the correct Chinese year of birth. If you were born before the first week
of February, you might have to use the previous year as your point of reference. After you
have established your Chinese year of birth, you can use the following formula:

For Males:
Using  your Chinese year of birth, add the last two digits together.   Reduce it to a single
digit number and subtract this number from 10.   The final answer is your personal Kua
Number.

Example
year of birth 1960.
6 + 0 = 6
10 - 6 = 4
So, men born in 1960, your Kua Number is 4.

For Females:
Determine your Chinese year of birth, then add the last two digits together.  Reduce it to a
single digit number and add 5 to the resulting number.  The final answer is your personal
Kua Number.

Example year of birth 1969.
6 + 9 = 15, to reduce to a single digit, 1+5=6
6 + 5 = 11,
1 + 1 = 2
So, women born in 1969, your Kua Number is 2
